Dionysus was famous as a god who frees people from worries and removes the bonds of a mundane life. The procession of Dionysus was believed to be ecstatic. Satyrs, bacchants, and maenads participated in it.

Despite the fact that Dionysus gained prominence primarily as a Greek god, researchers tend to believe that his cult was of Eastern origin.
