Poseidon lived in an underwater palace, among a host of obedient gods. The God of the seas was as beautiful in his appearance as Zeus himself. On the sea, he moved on a chariot, in which the marvelous horses were harnessed. With the help of a magic trident, Poseidon ruled the sea abyss. If there was a storm on the sea, he would stretch out a trident before him and an enraged sea would calm down.

The ancient Greeks admired this deity greatly. This was very important for the people of Greece, as their welfare depended on whether merchant ships would pass the sea.
