This embroidery design depicts a woman dancing a traditional Spanish dance called Flamenco. A very important component of this dance is clapping hands and striking the floor with heels of shoes.

This characteristic feature of the flamenco dance is called “zapateado” – the striking of the rhythm with heels, the rhythmic drum-like sound of the heels and of the soles of the shoes on the floor.

This colorful embroidery shows exactly these movements of the woman dancing Flamenco. The design is quite simple but has some very interesting elements that represent the hem of the woman’s dress.
