People have been making Jack-o-Lanterns on Halloween for centuries. This tradition arose from the Irish myths and legends about a greedy man that managed to trick the Satan. But in the end this didn’t help him at all: when he died he was rejected by both Heaven and Hell and had to roam the Earth for eternity. The Satan threw him a piece of burning coal as a joke so that the man could light his way. The man put the coal into an empty pumpkin and started his travels.
