The Beast used to be an arrogant and ill-mannered prince who once refused to let an old lady stay in his great castle. The old woman turned out to be a sorceress and turned him into an awful looking creature to punish him for his rudeness. The prince could become human again only if some girl would genuinely fell in love with him.

After a series of fortunate (for him) events he met Belle who became his prisoner first, but later fell in love with him and broke the spell.
